“Maroon Bells” – this image was shot at Maroon Bells Wilderness in Colorado.
I got up early to make my way up to this very beautiful place. Bad luck - the gate was locked. From where I had to park the truck to the top was probably just a couple/few miles but I might have miss guessed because hiking in the dark can be misleading.
Arriving just a little bit before the pre glow of dawns light I made my way to the lakes edge. I could already see how magnificent the dawn was likely to be. However I never fully realized, in my minds eye during predawn, how amazing this morning would become.
The fall colors on the hillside, a dusting of fresh snow on the mountains etching each striation, the clouds wafting through the hills and the still quiet of a morning all alone with the crisp Colorado air - yielded one of the best mornings here I'd ever witnessed.
